Replacement tags are dynamic and unique pieces of information, specific to an individual participant in your game. Each game has its own replacement tags, which you can use to customize your winner email or result pages, personalizing them for every player.

Replacement tags start and end with a #. You may have used similar tags in other software systems, where they might have been called merge tags, personalisation fields, substitution strings, or something else.

There are different types of replacement tags:

Note: replacement tags are only visible after the game is played.

Prize Replacement Tags

Prize replacement tags are used to describe prizes. They can display the prize name, prize description, prize images, etc. Read this article to see all the available prize fields.

You can use these replacement tags to customise your winner email and winner page. For example, you might want to send the prize winner an email with a description of the prize they won.

Prize tags in the winner mail

All games, regardless of prize type, will have replacement tags that can be used in the winner email. For example, you can use the #prize_image# replacement tag to insert an image of the prize in the email you will send to winners (as long as you have uploaded an image to the prize).

You can see what prize replacement tags you can use in the winner email under Emails > Prize email in the backend.

Prize tags on the winner page

You can also choose to display the prize replacement tags on the winner page.

Only bulk prize or instant win prize replacement tags can be used to customise the winner and loser pages. If you use winner pool prizes, you can display the prize tags in the winner email, but not on the winner page.

You can find the replacement tags that can be used on the winner page in the frontend editor when you select a text element.

When can you use prize replacement tags on the winner page?

Which games can use prize replacement tags on the winner and loser pages depends on the winner logic and the type of prize you are using.

Looking at the table above you can see that prize replacement tags can not be used to customise the result pages unless players win the prize while playing the game (bulk prizes or instant win).

Note that if you are using unique prize codes, however, we do not recommend using the #prize_code# replacement tags on the winner page, but rather to insert it in the winner email.

Metric Data Replacement Tags

Metric data is game data, which describes the outcome of the player’s game performance. Metric data replacement tags are used mainly in knowledge and skill games.

For example, you can use replacement tags in a personality test to display the different personalities players get based on their answers. This is what allows you to show different content on the same result page.

Metric data replacement tags can also be used in skill games, such as a drop game, to tell players their score, or in a swipe game to show players what they liked.

You can find these tags under Game Settings or in the frontend editor when you select a text element.

See an example of metric data replacement tags in a drop game in this video:

All knowledge and skill games, regardless of prize type and winner logic, will have metric data replacement tags that can be used to customize the result pages. However, you cannot currently use metric data replacement tags in the winner email.

Registration Data Replacement Tags

Registration data replacement tags relate to the information players enter in the registration form.

You will usually use registration replacement tags in the winner email. For example, you might want to personalise the winner message by including the player's name.

You can find these replacement tags, under Emails > Prize email. When you edit the winner email, you will see that there are multiple options for what replacement tag you can use.

For example,

  • To display the winner name, you can use #winner_name#, #registration_name#, #winner:name:fieldnumber#

We recommend you use the replacement tags that include the registration field number, since they are specific to the campaign you are building.

You can also use the standard #registration_name# or #winner_name# tags if you will be making many copies of the campaign and don't want to have to update the replacement tags.

Besides the winner email, you can also use registration data replacement tags on the result pages of the game, for example in Call To Actions buttons. To know more about this topic, watch this video:
